Church is For Kids

Printable Sermon Notes

Dear friend,

What began for practical reasons quickly morphed into spiritual and parental reasons as we saw the benefits of keeping our kids in service with us.

We started out keeping our oldest in church as an infant because she was still napping during the service time. Rather than skip church and stay home, we wore her or held her in service so she would get her nap and we could both (Josh and myself) benefit from the teaching and community. As the years wore on, we realized the practices of self-control, respect, honor, and quietness on a weekly basis were positively affecting our girls. Ultimately, the practice of teaching our children to sit in church was so beneficial to them that we continued to do it even when it wasn’t “necessary.”

Now as our kids are getting older and can read and write, I began to draw out a Sermon Notes template for them to use during the service. It includes space to draw a picture of what the speaker is speaking about and asks them to write down three things that stood out to them and one thing they learned about God. We use these notes on Sunday afternoon to discuss what we heard and talk about what we learned together. Now you can use them too!

We pray this will help guide family discipleship in your home, like it has in ours.
