Welcome to Verity podcast. I’m your host Phylicia Masonheimer, and I am here to teach you how to know what you believe, to live it boldly, and to communicate it graciously to the world around you. I believe that women are ready to go deeper in their faith than ever before, and they don’t have to go to seminary to do it. I am so glad you’re here and I hope you’ll join me on this journey because every woman is a theologian.

Hi, friends. Yes, a podcast episode on a Monday instead of a Wednesday. Surprise. I am doing a special episode because I have a special announcement and I want to be sure you don’t miss it. We are getting close to the beginning of 2023. January 1st is fast approaching and I’m guessing that some of you want to read through the Bible in a year, this year. If you’ve never done this, it’s one of my favorite things and I am so happy to have done it multiple times. But it is a lot of work. It takes consistency, it takes letting go of perfectionism. If you listened to my Bible reading plan episode from a few weeks ago, then you know it also takes understanding how to be flexible and how to discipline ourselves to show up to the Word of God, because we know it will transform us. But we are more likely to follow through on goals like this if we have accountability, community and a plan.

Now, you can definitely use one of the Bible reading plans I mentioned in that episode. They’re still available on the blog, but I’m guessing that some of you need that community and accountability. If that’s you, I have something just for you.

One of the things I wanted to do in 2023 was really lean into the community of Every Woman A Theologian, the organization that sponsors and basically runs Verity podcast. So, if you are looking to connect with other members of our community, this would be a great opportunity as well. What is it? It’s the Bible in a Year Club. That’s right. For those of you who want to read through the Bible in a year in 2023, you can do it with other members of the Every Woman A Theologian community and the resources that we provide, all in one easy to use course. What we’ve created is a teachable course where you can log in every day or every week and look at the reading plan and utilize resources to help you go deeper into the text each week. You’ll also be connected with other members of the program so that you can be accountable and check in with one another and let each other know what you’re wrestling with, how you’re doing, and you can stay on track with your plan.

I am passionate about biblical education, not just theology, but theology rooted in the historical context of Scripture. Every wayward teaching, every heresy in the world capitalizes on people who don’t know their Bible well. It’s my mission to make sure women and men are growing in biblical literacy and theology so they can own their faith and experience intimacy with God. I’ve been teaching the Bible for 10 years now and leading Every Woman a Theologian for six. Even though I have a degree in Christian religion, I work with women and men who are not in ministry and don’t plan to be. So, this program is for every woman. It’s not just for those who are going to go to seminary or who want to get a degree in this. This is for the woman who wants to go deeper in the Bible and actually finish it for the first time.

The goal of the Bible in the Year Club is to give you a big picture view of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in its chronological order. In the order that it happened. This is really helpful for understanding where things fall in the timeline. This will also teach you to engage with Scripture without perfectionism and hyper detail. A lot of people get too bogged down in trying to follow a checklist or go super deep every single day in their study, and they miss the point of Bible study. I want you to also maximize your learning style so you engage with the text. I want you to use the things that work for your learning style so you’re growing and you’re progressing and you’re not just putting it off for another day.

Learn how to draw out theological principles, not just find a quick application for the day. This is another thing that happens when we go to the Bible looking for things about us instead of looking to learn about God. Engage with the text even when you’re short on time or you’re busy, because we all are short on time and we all are busy with our lives. We have to make the Bible a priority. I want you to become flexible in your Bible reading, graciously disciplined, following through, and most of all, connecting with other members of the Every Woman a Theologian community to stay accountable and discuss the text. All of this together will help you finish the Bible in one year. So, what’s the catch? Well, there’s a few things that it cost us to put this program together. We pay to host it. We pay to put the videos together. It’s a lot of work to create a resource like this, but I also want it to be accessible to every person and as affordable as possible.

For the Bible in the Year community in 2023, it’s $15 a month to have access to everything that I’m providing for the four weeks and all of the videos and teaching that I have uploaded there to help you on your way. You’ll be not just getting the Bible reading plan, you’ll be getting a few helps from the historical context to notetaking to habit formation and spiritual discipline. And, of course, you get the community as well. You’ll be using the Teachable app to log in, or you can log in on your desktop, whichever you prefer. This course launches today, December 26, and we’re starting January 1st, so it’s a pretty tight turnaround if you want to join us. But if it’s not in the budget right now, you can join us later in 2023. You’ll just be coming in part of the way through the year, and at that point you can join us right where we are in the Bible, or you can start at the beginning and work your way through.

Most of us will be on track starting January 1st, so I recommend starting wherever you are in the year. Whatever text we’re on at that moment, that’s where I would recommend starting. If you can join us January 1st, I would love to have you. You can go to the link in the show notes, wherever you’re listening, iTunes or Spotify to register and get started with us and I cannot wait to read through the whole Bible with you in 2023.

Thank you so much for listening to this week’s episode of Verity podcast. If you enjoyed this episode, would you take the time to leave us a review? It helps so many other women around the world find out about Verity and about Every Woman a Theologian as a ministry and a shop. We appreciate you and I hope you’ll be back next week as we continue to go deeper into God’s Word and the heart of Jesus Christ.
